What is Stormwater?
Storm water is surface water flow resulting from rain or snowmelt. During and following precipitation events, storm water flows though storm sewers and discharges to receiving streams. Storm sewers at the University of Illinois lead either to the Boneyard Creek or to the Embarras River. Unless measures are taken to clean up and prevent pollution, storm water can pick up pollutants on the ground and carry them untreated to streams.
