A/E's & Contractors
Erosion and sediment control is vital to keeping campus waterways clean. As part of the University's stormwater permit, campus construction standards incorporate federal and state erosion and sediment control requirements.
Construction Sites Greater than One Acre
Construction sites that disturb one acre or more require a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and Notice of Coverage.
These must be in place before breaking ground.
All Construction Sites
All construction sites must provide the following to prevent sediment from entering the storm sewer:
Stabilized entrance: A well-maintained stabilized entrance reduces off-site sediment tracking.
Street sweeping: Remove any debris tracked onto the street by the end of the day.
Filters for pumped groundwater: Discharging cloudy water to the storm sewer is prohibited.
Preserve existing vegetation: Vegetative strips are often the least expensive erosion control technique.
