UIUC Implements Changes in Disabled Parking Space Violations

University of Illinois handicapped parking signOn March 1, 2006 U of I Facilities & Services (F&S) Parking Department began enforcing the new state law that changed the penalties for handicap parking violations. F&S replaced previous handicap violation fee signs with new ones in advance of the March 1 enforcement date.

On January 1, 2006 changes to the State of Illinois law setting penalties for violations of disabled parking spaces became effective. Fines for violations on the UIUC campus have increased from $100 to $250 per violation in keeping with state law. Violators may also be subject to immediate towing and additional fees. Under some circumstances state law provides for additional penalties should the situation warrant such action.

These penalties will be imposed on vehicles not displaying a disabled parking placard or license plates, for vehicles with invalid or expired placards, or for any misuse of disabled parking placards. Questions regarding enforcement of disabled parking in University facilities may be directed to the F&S Parking Department, 333-3530.
