From: John G. Dempsey, Executive Director, Facilities & Services (F&S)

Date: February 22, 2005

The Dean’s Budget Committee recommended several years ago that capital construction projects should bear the cost of project management services. The project management fee will be used to fund the activities performed by the Project Management Department necessary to deliver a successful project. Preliminary analysis indicates that a 1% flat fee will be sufficient to fund these activities for the campus. The Facilities & Services Advisory Committee will annually review this fee and the expenditures it supports. They will make recommendations as to any adjustment in the amount assessed.

Effective January 1, 2005, all projects managed through the Project Management Department, which are those capital projects that were advertised and competitively bid, will be assessed a project management fee of 1%. The only exceptions to this will be feasibility studies and equipment only purchases. The fee will be included as a line item in the project budget developed by the Capital Planning Department. For projects funded through the Capital Development Board, the fee will be included in the funds-to-complete budget.
