About Capital Planning

The primary focus of Planning is to help campus administration and campus customers develop solutions for their facility needs that comply with regulations, fit into the University's master plan, are well-designed both from a building system perspective and the users perspective, and have accurate budget forecasts.

A new project on campus, be it remodeling or new construction, begins with an idea or concept. It moves through several steps including programming (how the space will be used, what utilities are available, what site is most appropriate, etc.), design, preparation of construction documents and bidding. Having access to the people who manage the site selection process, manage the planning and programming process, review the drawings for code compliance, design engineering and utility aspects, and manage the drawings and record system, will allow the Department to better plan small and large projects. This will result in more accurate budget and construction forecasts for clients and customers

• The Capital Project Request for Program Statement/Project Conceptualization form

  All projects for the construction of new facilities and new uses of University land as well as facilities additions, renovations and/or capital improvement projects estimated to cost $500,000 or more will be reviewed and approved by the Chancellor’s Capital Review Committee (CCRC) prior to being presented to or discussed by advisory groups, prospective donors, or any other organization outside the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Campus (UIUC). The Capital Project Request for Program Statement/Project Conceptualization is used to gather required information and authorizations in order to commit campus planning and fundraising resources and to provide appropriate coordination.

• The Capital Project Request for Feasibility Study form

  A Capital Project Request for Feasibility Study must be submitted for any project with an anticipated Project Budget greater than $500K. One copy of this completed form and required attachments must be submitted to the Director of Planning, Facilities & Services at least four weeks prior to the CCRC meeting at which approval will be requested to conduct a Feasibility Study.
