Appendix 18. Plan for the Development of the Campus of the University of Illinois, Platt, 1922

Platt’s plan retained the main feature the north-south axis with a Quad and South Quad as previous plans suggested. Giving order to open spaces is suggested by creating clusters of buildings aligned on a series of east-west axes and shows how far this scheme could be carried without modifying the basic elements of plan. The east-west axis was modified to extend to the new boundaries of the campus and suggests a large building at the intersection of the main north-south and east-west axes.
