GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES FOR AN AGENCY OR ORGANIZATION
REQUESTING ALLIED STATUS
The policy outlines the guidelines and procedures for an agency or organization
requesting Allied status, and the benefits afforded Allied agencies and organizations
by the University.
- Conditions Under
Which Allied Status May Be Granted For the purposes of according benefits,
Allied status may be granted an agency and organization
that is categorized as a governmental (state) agency (local) or a professional/technical/independent
organization.
- Governmental
Agency (local) - State is defined as a governmental agency directly
associated
with the University that supports specific aspects of the
University's program and is located in the Champaign-Urbana community.
- A professional/technical/independent
organization is defined as an organization whose activities contribute directly
to the University's program.
- Attributes Which
Such an Agency or Organization Must Have to be Considered for Allied
Status
- It
must occupy University facilities or be located in the University of Illinois Research Park or Incubators (except a governmental
agency).
- The agency or organization must not be receiving state funds for the services
or benefits to be provided under Allied status.
- The agency's or organization's request must be sponsored and supported by
a major University unit or office. The basis for such sponsorship must be a
cooperative and beneficial relationship between the agency or organization
and the sponsoring unit. The sponsoring unit must justify the need for the
Allied status benefits to be accorded the agency or organization and must identify
discretionary funds under its control that it will use to meet the cost to
the University of various benefits accorded the agency or organization under
Allied status.
- Individuals do not qualify for Allied status. Only as members or employees
of agencies or organizations granted Allied status may they share in the benefits
accorded or avail themselves of the services made available by the University
to that agency or organization.
To meet the requirement outlined in (C) above, a letter of agreement should
be developed by the sponsoring unit and the agency or organization requesting
Allied status stating the following:
- The nature of the cooperative relationship existing between the two (what
services are being rendered to each by the other).
- The benefits accruing to each from this relationship.
- The specific University benefits that are desired by the agency or organization
requesting Allied status.
- The cost of such benefits to the University and the source of funds from which
the sponsoring unit will meet those costs.
This letter should be
addressed and forwarded to the Office of the Executive Director, Facilities
& Services, 1501 S. Oak Street,
Champaign, Illinois
61820.
If the request
is appropriate, it will be forwarded to the
President of the University for his review and approval.

or organizations and their employees will depend upon the degree of relationship
